Fine Gael presidential candidate Mairead McGuinness: multi-property, mortgage-free landlord
Fine Gael presidential candidate Mairead McGuinness is a multi-property, mortgage-free landlord.
Her rental income from these two Meath investment properties is in addition to the €800,000 she claimed in EU expenses for rent and costs of her constituency office – a separate property she also owns in the same county.
McGuinness and her husband bought their first investment property without a mortgage in 2014 near her own home in Mentrim, county Meath.
The three-bedroom house in Bigstown is subject to an existing tenancy, according to the Residential Tenancies Board (RTB) register.
McGuinness and her spouse in 2016 bought another three-bedroom house in Mentrim, which is also registered as a rental property with the RTB. Land Registry records show no mortgage listed on the property’s folio.
The former MEP was announced yesterday as Fine Gael’s candidate for this year’s presidential election, with her nomination expected to be formally ratified by the party in September.
