US-funded munitions on Israeli national airline transported through Irish airspace for IDF last week

The Israeli national airline last week illegally transported munitions of war funded by the US through Irish territory to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).

Elbit Systems of America sent the six shipments on an El Al flight through Irish sovereign airspace from Newark Airport to Tel Aviv last Sunday, according to freight records uncovered by The Ditch.

Israeli forces killed 10 Palestinians on Monday in an airstrike near a Gaza school.

El Al flight LY1624 arrived in Ireland off the coast of Galway shortly before 9.15am, passing over Offaly, Laois and Kildare before leaving the state at Wicklow.

The 268-kilogramme cargo was labelled as Foreign Military Financing, the US government programme that funds Israeli weapons.

Elbit Systems is the largest supplier of weapons to the IDF.

The carriage of munitions of war through Irish sovereign airspace is a criminal offence under Irish air navigation law.

The Ditch first reported in 2024 that El Al was illegally transporting weapons through Irish territory and later reported that the Israeli flag carrier was stalling a probe into the allegations.

Fianna Fáil transport minister Darragh O’Brien has been contacted for comment.
