Basque company sent vehicle parts to Israeli arms firm

A Basque company last week sent almost half a tonne of vehicle components to Israeli weapons manufacturer Elbit Systems – the Israel Defense Forces’ (IDF) largest weapons supplier.

It went less than a week after Spain said it would ban the export of military goods to Israel.

The Ditch exclusively reported in June this year that another Basque company, Sidenor, was supplying steel to Elbit Systems-owned IMI Systems (formerly Israel Military Industries). A second shipment from the Bilbao-based company was cancelled after pressure from unions and Palestine solidarity groups.

Aplicaciones Mecánicas del Caucho, also known as AMC Mecanocaucho, is based in Asteasu and has produced vehicle engine components since 1969.

On 11 September it shipped 485 kilogrammes of anti-vibration mounts, typically used in vehicles but also in other equipment, to the Elbit Systems electronic warfare plant in Holon, Israel.

A 12 September DHL flight from Vitoria Airport in the Basque Country transported the parts to Leipzig Airport in Germany.

Another DHL flight brought the components to Tel Aviv on Monday.

Elbit Systems supplies 80 percent of the weapons and military equipment for the IDF land forces, according to a recent report by the BDS Movement.

AMC Mecanocaucho has been contacted for comment.
