An EU-registered ship will pass through Spanish territory carrying 440 tonnes of mortar bomb parts, projectiles and military-grade steel to the Israel Defense Forces’ largest weapons supplier.
The German-owned ship sailing under the Portuguese flag will travel through the Strait of Gibraltar in the coming weeks on its way to Israel, having started its journey in India.
Meanwhile another EU-registered vessel travelling from India to Israel was allowed through Spanish maritime territory last month despite The Ditch reporting it was carrying 18 containers of munitions.
More than 400 tonnes
German shipping company Reederei Gerdes owns the new Holger G vessel, which arrived at India’s Chennai Port last week and left on Sunday. It’s now off the coast of southern Africa.
Shipping records uncovered by The Ditch confirm the ship is carrying 440 metric tonnes of munitions and steel to Haifa Port in Israel.
The ship’s cargo includes 175 tonnes of 155mm artillery projectile bodies and 140 tonnes of mortar bomb components.
They’re being delivered respectively to the IMI Systems weapons plant in Ramat Hasharon and the Elbit Systems Land factory in Yokneam Illit.
Also onboard the ship are 125 tonnes of military-grade steel, sent by R L Steels & Energy Ltd in Aurangabad, on their way to the IMI Systems weapons factory.
The Holger G is expected to arrive at Haifa Port in late December – with one marine traffic site indicating it may first stop at Egypt’s Port Said – carrying its munitions, some of which are likely to be used in Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza.
Reederei Gerdes declined to comment.
