Israeli weapon shipments insurer: ‘honour’ to host Robert Troy

An Irish insurer that covered a ship carrying 440 tonnes of munitions to Israel – which Amnesty International said could contribute to genocide – had the “honour” of having Fianna Fáil’s Robert Troy attend the opening of its new Dublin office.

Minister of state Troy told NorthStandard management in February this year that he looked forward to “working with” and “learning from” the company – just a month after it transported hundreds of tonnes of munitions to Israel.

The Ditch later reported the same company was insuring another ship transporting weapons to the Israel Defense Forces.

Troy said, "I attended the opening of NorthStandard's office in Dublin as a guest on foot of an invite from the company, but did not officially open it.”

British-headquartered NorthStandard Ltd is one of the world's largest marine insurers.

Its Irish-incorporated subsidiary NorthStandard EU DAC – with an address at 76 Sir John Rogerson’s Quay in Dublin 2 – provides cover to several cargo ships transporting weapons to Israel.

These ships can’t legally operate without protection and indemnity insurance.

NorthStandard previously told The Ditch it only insures “vessels engaged in lawful trades”.
